Prof. Herman De Meulenaere (1923-2011)

It is with great sadness that we received the news that on Sunday June 5th, 2011, at the age of 88, Professor Herman De Meulenaere passed away.

Herman De Meulenare was professor emeritus in Egyptology at the University of Gent, Belgium. He was the Honorary Chief Curator of the Egyptian collection of the Royal Museums of Art and History of Brussels, Director of the Egyptological Association Queen Elisabeth and Honorary Director of the Committee for Belgian Excavations in Egypt. Professor De Meulenare published a large number of books, articles and reviews on various Egyptological themes and was one of the driving forces behind the egyptological journal ‘Chronique d’Egypte’. He was also director of the Belgian excavations at the site of Elkab in Upper Egypt. Professor De Meulenaere will be laid to rest on Friday, June 10th, in Schaarbeek, Brussels.
