On June 16 and 17, the Czech Institute of Egyptology organised a two-day international workshop dedicated to aspects of tradition and innovation in ancient Egypt. The workshop specifically focussed on the confrontation between (local) customs and novel concepts that functioned as a catalyst for important social and religious developments, leading to various processes of modification and transformation within society. Particular attention was paid to different methods and strategies employed by individuals and/or communities when confronted with changes, and its subsequent reflection in the material culture of ancient Egypt (in architecture text and image).

 

The organisation of the workshop was funded by the “Central European Network for Teaching and Research in Academic Liaison” (CENTRAL: https://central-network.eu/). The workshop brought together Ph.D. students and scholars from the Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest), Universität Wien, Humboldt University (Berlin), and Charles University (Prague).
