The book by Hana Vymazalová, Abusir XXXI. Builders and Priests of the Pharaohs: Selected Aspects of the Administration and Economy of the Old-Kingdom Pyramid Complexes, is being released.

Annotation: This volume delves into the pyramid complexes of Egyptian pharaohs, examining them in the broader context of the Old Kingdom state, royal ideology, society, and beliefs. The author’s long-standing interest in the Abusir papyrus archives – unparalleled administrative texts from the Fifth Dynasty royal necropolis of Abusir – leads to a comprehensive study of the Old Kingdom pyramid complexes, with the aim to cover both the construction phase during the king’s lifetime and the subsequent funerary cult after the king’s burial. The author meticulously traces the administrative and economic aspects of these two phases by following the individual stages of the construction project and the organisation of funerary cults. In her study, she integrates textual sources with various types of archaeological, iconographic, and epigraphic evidence related to Old Kingdom royal monuments.
