Lecture by Prof. Christian Leitz, „The Astronomical Ceiling in the Temple of Esna„, which will take place on Friday June 21, at 10.00 in room 450d

Prof. Christian Leitz heads the Egyptology department of the Institut für die Kulturen des Alten Orients at the Universität Tübingen. He is one of the world’s leading scholars on Ptolemaic inscriptions, and has published extensively on Egyptian temples and religion of the Ptolemaic and Roman era. Since 2003 he directs the Athribis project, excavating, documenting and publishing the Ptolemaic and Roman temple remains. Since 2018, he is closely involved with the Esna project, directed by Dr. Daniel von Recklinghausen (Universität Tübingen), in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and its Documentation Center, with the aim to fully clean and restore the inscriptions and reliefs of the Roman pronaos and publish its subsequent results.
