J. Janák graduated in religious studies and theology from the Hussite Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague. He is a regular lecturer at the Hussite Theological Faculty, Faculty of Arts and lecture events of the Czech Institute of Egyptology. In 2011, he became associate professor of Egyptology at the FA CU in Prague. He cooperates with the Egyptological Seminar of the University of Bonn (Totenbuch-Projekt). In 2013–2014 he was Fulbright Fellow at Brown University, Providence (USA). His specialisation is Ancient Egyptian religion, the concept of afterlife existence and interpretation of religious and magical texts. During the reference period his main interest was the relation between the “divine” and the “royal” majesty and their interaction.
