In 2016-2018 a project no. 528216 “Ancient Egyptian stories of Middle Kingdom – translation, analysis and the grammatical structure of the texts accessible to general linguistics” was funded by the Charles University Grant Agency (GA UK) of the investigators based at the Czech Institute of Egyptology – Mgr. Diana Míčková and Mgr. Dorotea Wollnerová.
There were two main aims of the project. The first one was to prepare new anotated Czech translations of the main canonical works of the Egyptian literature of Middle Kingdom (i.e. The Tale of Sinuhe, The Tale of Eloquent peasant, The Tale of Shipwrecked sailor and The Tales of Papyrus Westcar), they will be published in 2019 as a monography “Poslyš vyprávění z časů tvých otců: Příběhy ze starého Egypta“ (Hear the stories from the days of your fathers: Tales from Ancient Egypt). The second aim of this project was to work out new English translations of these texts and provide them with interlinear glossing according to Leipzig glossing rules that will make the grammatical structure of ancient Egyptian texts accesible to linguists without knowledge of Middle Egyptian and also enable the use of this language for comparative studies.
